I still buy a lot of e-books in Japanese for my Kindle. Amazon's “recommendations” help me quickly find the next book I want to read – whether I want to or not. However, since I've only bought about 20 books in German, I can't find any good books if I remain passive. That's why I go to a real bookstore at least once a month, even if I'm not looking for anything in particular, to discover new books. Just looking at the bestseller section reveals the interests of Germans, and since books are a popular gift in Germany, it's fun to look at the beautiful covers (although they are also more expensive than in Japan...). I recently bought the book “Jeden Tag Einen Schritt” (One Step Every Day) by Hoss & Hopf. It contains words of wisdom for every day of the year, each on one page, ending with three specific recommendations for action. I always read purchased books for at least 15 minutes on the day of purchase to recoup at least part of the purchase price. However, this was not necessary with this book, because it is so interesting that I read two to three pages every morning, process it in my own way, and note down my own formulations in Google Docs. These repeated inputs and outputs motivate me to do my best again today, so the $25 I spent on the book was more than worth it. Since the content is very practical, I think the book would also make a good gift for intermediate German learners. I've only read about a quarter of it so far, but my favorites so far are the following three days. (April 7) The feeling that you can achieve a little more ultimately leads to great success. Even if it's only a little bit, we should try to achieve a little more. (May 30): Imagine who would be sitting in the front row at your funeral. These are the people you should cherish most during your lifetime and, if necessary, leave a legacy to. (June 5): Under a gravestone with the inscription “Ole” surely rests a person who was very happy. I would like to have a short sentence engraved on my gravestone that symbolizes my life. I will search until I find that sentence.
